Creative Futures – Recap of the module aims..!

I was looking the module specification for Creative Futures in respect of the module aims; I thought I would write a critical piece for each part to describe how applicable they are to the more mature student like myself who has over thirty years work experience, to see if there is anything I can take forward from this module experience.

1.To provide opportunities for the development of transferable skills which are appropriate and beneficial for student’s subsequent academic, personal and vocational progress.

Following the completion of this degree, I never had any intention of progressing vocationally and still don’t. As for transferable skills, I think I have already proved that I am an excellent communicator and a leader but also have an awareness of being able to judge someone’s personality and how dedicated they are to working professionally.

2.To provide an introduction into the professional life of media professionals, working artists and designers and to create an awareness of career opportunities.

Although have had the opportunities to attend guest speaker events, and although the ones I did attend may have been an interest to certain people. I did not find that I could engage with any of subject matter as it just did not trigger any enthusiasm from me; I understand the work ethic message that’s being demonstrated. Still, in all honesty, I found it annoying, but that could be my age…!!

3.To examine contemporary practitioners and their working philosophies and to assess their influence in the specialist field through industrial visits, exhibitions and design festivals, guest talks and media professional lectures.

This is a bit of a difficult one to answer. However, I did manage to get to see a Peter Green tribute concert in London and wrote about it accordingly in this blog; there has not been any further opportunity to expand on any additional “industrial visits, exhibitions, design festivals, guest talks and media professional lectures”, this is mainly due to the unprecedented pandemic that hit our shores..!!

4.To inform the student of the importance of communication, working relationships and the demands and expectations of the workplace.

During the module, when we where all put into groups, I met interesting people from different backgrounds and courses, varying ages and personalities. There is a chance I will never meet with them again, but there is one thing I am good at is being a good judge of character, not that I want to display any of my comments on this blog; however it can all be summed up by the members of the team that showed initiative with communication and those who turned up for the final presentation, these members of our group are at least dedicated to the rest of the team. With me being the project leader, I would think we would keep in contact in the future.

5.Introduce students to personal development planning.

Also known as a PDP, so what is a PDP, its shows your strengths and weaknesses in text form, strengths end up on your CV, weaknesses you have to work on so they can end up on your CV, the more strengths you get, the better chance of getting that job..!!

Although these are meant to be critical comments for the individual learning outcomes I do not intend them to be harsh in any way, I think what I have learnt is that teamwork and communication play a big part in your future this is the message that I would give to anyone studying this module.

Teamwork makes the dreamwork, feel the fear and do it anyway…!!
